Alzheimer’s Disease – Family Based Study (AD-FBS)
Nearly twenty years ago, the National Institute on Aging Alzheimer’s Disease Family Based Study (NIA ADFBS – formerly known as the NIA LOAD) was established as a resource to support research focused on Alzheimer’s disease (AD), and to spur therapeutic development.
This cooperative study started a trend of greater cooperation and sharing of clinical and genetic data among researchers. Virtually every major genetic study of late onset Alzheimer’s disease has included participants and controls from this longitudinal family-based dataset. It is arguably the most widely used Alzheimer disease genetics dataset in the world, with genome-wide SNP arrays, whole exome sequencing in and whole genome sequencing data.
Our main goal is to augment this valuable resource in multiple ways to ensure it can continue to meet the needs of the AD research community.
This page has been designed to ensure both FBS investigators and coordinators have easy access to study documents, training, data requests, publications, newsletters, and calendar of events.
